House hunting can be overwhelming to say the least.
You plan as many viewings as possible, and when you’re looking around the homes you have no idea what you should be looking for.
How can you tell if this house is perfect for you?
If you’re looking for houses for sale in Swindon, don’t worry. Here are the seven things you should look out for.
- Which way does the house face?
You wouldn’t think this is important, but it can make all the difference. In the summer, it could mean a dull and dark living room or a room that’s warm and full of light.
It can also affect your plants, as some need to be planted where they can get the most sunlight.
- How much storage space is there?
Storage space is vital for any home owner. You need a place to keep the vacuum cleaner, spare towels, and all the other odds and ends that accumulate in a home.
Built in storage is becoming more and more rare, especially in newly built homes.
- Is there damp?
When comparing houses for sale in Swindon, this is a deciding factor in whether you’ll go for a house or not.
Look for dark or wet patches on the walls or ceiling.
Getting rid of damp is a difficult task, and one you really don’t want to do when you’re just moving into a new place.
- Are the windows intact?
If the house you’re viewing has double glazing, you’ve probably just skipped past them assuming that they’re in good condition.
After all, double glazing means the house will stay warm, right? Not so.
Check that there’s no cracks in the glass or window frames. If you bought the house and then found them, you’d be in for a costly replacement fee.
- What’s the attic like?
A lot of viewers don’t think about the attic, but it’s an important storage space.
Is theirs easily accessed, and how big is it? Could you comfortably store your Christmas decorations and other bits and pieces up there?
- How are the drains?
Check the outside of the home for any drains. Are they accessible and fully functional?
If not, they could allow water to build up around the house, potentially causing damage to the foundations.
- Where are the power points?
Look where the power points are located. Are they in convenient positions? If they’re not, it could be an expensive rewiring job. Also, take a look at the fuse board. If it looks old and outdated, it could be a sign that the wiring will need some work done to it.
Most importantly though, does the house feel as though it could be a home to you? After all, this is the most important thing to consider!
